If at first you don't succeed...

That's right - I have yet to succeed at any real weight loss. I have also haven't succeeded in keeping up with my blog!

After trying to lose weight for a couple months earlier this year, I went through a series of blood tests to monitor my thyroid. Turns out I have nothing wrong with my thyroid despite my valient efforts to lose weight and exercise. Well, maybe they weren't always so valient - I do have a lot of cheating when it comes to diets, and I wasn't the most consistent with my workouts when it all comes down to it. I was using the gym and the classes for about 4 weeks straight, and then my attendance began to wane. We had a two-week vacation in April which threw our schedules off, and then neither of us ever got back on the train.

I think the highest my weight has been in the last few months was 168 pounds. I can hardly believe it. If it wasn't for the fact that I barely have any pants that fit in my closet, and I continually have to go up a size on everything I buy now, I could just ignore this whole problem. I purchased two pair of size 16 petite pants in the last couple months, and surprisingly, it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. It should have bothered me much more than it did, but it didn't. I think it was because I was so excited that I was going to be able to put pants on that FIT and weren't crazy tight like all my size 12 pants in my closet. You can completely forget about the size 10s that are pushed all the way against the back wall.

I have now decided to combat the issue with a combination of Weight Watchers (online only because I abhor the meetings), Slim Fast shakes (a yummy and chocolatey substitute for a meal), and a walking/jogging regimen called C25K (Couch to 5K) to get back on the jogging trail. I really do love being back out and running/walking because it gives me time to think. I have used the treadmills a couple times at the gym, but I much more prefer running outside where I can feel the ground under my feet. I am realistic enough to realize that winter is just around the corner and I am not going to be able to run outside much, but that is what the gym is for. I would also like to get back into the step classes again, but I just can't bring myself to go to the mean lady's class on Monday evenings again after being absent for so long. I will want to say something snotty when she points out in front of everyone that I have been gone for months, and I have really been trying to keep my attitude in check. I could see myself losing my cool with her very easily.

Back on the topic at hand...if at first you don't succeed, try, try again! So that is what I am doing - trying again for the billionth time. One day, I am going to be thin like I was for those few short months in college when I ran my little toosh off (literally!). I'll keep you all posted!
